paint on face in eyes
Face on Face; Vaseline, Acrylic and Poster Paint on Self and Swimming cap
Quick test run today for a video I'm starting work on.
I've become a bit stuck recently as to what I'm doing, So I've spent the last month reading. This is probably the first piece of work that I've done where I feel comfprtable with what I'm doing and have a vague idea of what I'm doing. Hoping to make prints of the images I've taken, along with the film, and presenting them in my Performance Art elective. Probably make some drawings/paintings from the prints.
It was interesting, as for a brief moment I was a sculpture, of sorts. also a painting. Now I have photographs, of either paintings or performances. It's all a bit confusing.
What I did learn from today was to use less vaseline as an undercoat, as it made the acrylic/poster paint break up. Then had a talk with my tutor about where to go from now. Truth be told, there's a lot of different ways I can go from this project, just need to sit down and focus. And make mistakes. It is very important that I stop worrying and make mistakes with my work, otherwise I'll never get anywhere.
Fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

context/content and speaker's corner.
After discussing context/content of performance today, we were asked to go out and perform and record something. So myself, miles and michael decided to build some sort of structure allowing us to get out of the building's walls without using the doors. I didn't climb all the way over because I have absolutely no grace and could picture either the structure collapsing or me falling off and braking a limb.
As we had camera phones to hand, this was the most obvious choice to record the event. Although I suppose this blog is a good way of recording it too, as what you don't see from the photo is another bench diagonally leaning against the other two and two chairs supporting, basically the only thing holding everything together was friction. also I could say I ran up it, did a back flip and landed on the roof of a moving car, batman style.
you don't know. you weren't there. you should've been though.
Surprisingly, none of the building's security were bothered, had a quick chat with one who looked like a retired steven segal (couldn't be sure though, didn't see him run) who just seemed to find it all a bit amusing. Asked if we had permission, said no, shrugged it off and said be careful. A staff member came out and looked concerned. But said little. It was captured on film, and as soon as I get hold of it I'll post it up.
working on a film at the moment that' tying in with my painting work. Not going to say much in case it all goes hideously wrong but that's something to look forward to in the next week. I'm looking forward to doing it, as I still haven't got my head round to what exactly I'm doing in my main body of work this year, other than read books about old timey freak shows.
Also, on the 20th of this month I am to give a speech at Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park.
A Speakers' Corner is an area where public speaking is allowed. The original and most noted is in the north-east corner of Hyde Park in London, England. Speakers there are allowed to speak as long as the police consider their speeches lawful. Contrary to popular belief, there is no immunity from the law, nor are any subjects proscribed, but in practice the police tend to be tolerant [1] and therefore only intervene when they receive a complaint or if they hear profanity.
So that's the idea of speaking on behalf of the Cocking Fucking Cunt Party scuppered then.

"Becoming Animal"
we were set a homework in performance art. it was to make a video about "becoming animal".
below is the result of my (non) effort. It was based around a quote that I can't fully remember but the general jist is that the point of performance is not really being there.
or something.
enjoy!

return of the mac.
I done fuck all since the end of year show, apart from this thing to the left. It was going to be used in a brit pop club night that never happened, now it's sitting in my living room judging me every time I come in from work.
Well, not anymore as I left my job to begin the second year of the Painting degree at Camberwell.
Have started an Elective in Performance Art so expect videos of myself dicking about and generally making a fool of my self in the name of art.

the paints, they are a changing.
This is the image that pretty much started it. I think it was done back in March of this year, must've been because it was for jack's birthday. Anyway, this sort of changed how I worked because A) I really enjoyed painting it and B) I didn't feel it needed any text, which is a terrible habit I have, every painting ends up with a gammy bit of writing on it because in my head I think I'm an illustration student. It's not so bad and more. so that painting evolved into the image on the right (I have no idea how to arrange pictures on this thing. it's really annoying, may have to get a flickr or photo bucket thing so I can link direct to pictures like this.
SWISH.
Anyway. I'm working on some paintings at the moment that have gone a bit Francis bacon on me. The photo booth app on jack's mac was my inspiration. Lazy. But effective. Pictures up soon.
BAI.

oh hai
I paint things. At some point I will put up pictures of what I've been painting and talk about, um, art stuff? Generally how the work is going, if there are any good shows on and most likely moaning about what shows are shit. That's all to come. Until then, enjoy a picture of a pug with a Batman mask on.
ok.
